Virginia provides the ideal environment for growing grapes, so it makes perfect sense that we are home to a plethora of wineries. One very highly-rated winery is right in Western Prince William County. The Winery at La Grange, which boasts four- to five-star reviews on Trip Advisor, Yelp and Google reviews, is nestled in the rolling hills of Haymarket, Virginia (at 4970 Antioch Rd.).

This winery has about a decade of experience making fantastic wines, hosting events and giving tours. Come roam this scenic vineyard, which rests in the foothills of the Bull Run Mountains. You can taste their unique variety of wines in a rotating selection. Make a day of it and eat at one of the fantastic local restaurants. Or if you’re looking for a weekend of libations, spend the night at one of the area hotels. Enjoy the scenery as long as you’d like.

Wine aficionados have an option to invest in this winery and take away some pretty fabulous benefits. If you join La Grange’s Barrel Club, you invest money to help them purchase new American, Hungarian and French wine barrels to help them create more delicious wines. When you invest in a barrel, you get benefits like a customized barrel plaque, your choice of 6 bottles of wine per vintage years for the four years they use your barrel, four years of complimentary wine tastings, complimentary entry to their Vintner Tasting for four years, an invitation to their December Barrel Club Social, and you get to take the wine barrel home after the four years of use are over. You also get great discounts on additional bottles of wine, gift shop purchases and facility rentals for private events. You can pay as you go or get a discount by making a lump sum payment.

Red, white, sparkling — who can choose? If you’re a wine lover who wants to try them all, The Winery at La Grange wine club is just right for you. Wine club members receive two cases of special selections from their whole collection, including limited edition, pre-releases, Benoni’s Reserve Only releases and reserve bottlings. Shipments are delivered in February, May, September and November and come with tasting notes from the winemaker, food pairing suggestions and notifications of special events happening all year. You also receive discounts on additional bottles of wine, gift shop purchases and rentals. The club also comes with a complementary tasting card for two people and a bottle of Reserve Sparkling wine. This would make an excellent holiday gift for the wine lover in your life.

If you like your vino with a spooky twist, you may enjoy the ghost stories of La Grange. The story goes that in 2006, as the winery was being renovated, a neighboring family came by to see the changes. They heard piano music playing and thought their children had gone into the house and started playing a piano, yet when they entered the house, there was no piano. They later discovered that the former owner of the house had willed a piano to his nephew. There is also a recurring story of the ghost of a young girl that inhabits one of the rooms upstairs.

No matter what draws you to The Winery at La Grange, you’re sure to be pleased. Plan to take some time soon to enjoy this jewel in Haymarket.
