Make a Splash at These Nearby Virginia Water Spots

We Realtors tend to go on and on about location, location, location! But when we live and work in a prime spot like Prince William County, how can we not? If we go a few hours north, we hit our wonderful capital. Southeast leads us to the Eastern Shore and Virginia Beach. And out west, we’ve got convenient mountains to explore. What more could we ask for?

Since we’re in the heat of the summer, we’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the best ways to cool off and enjoy the water in our area, and we’ve got some great spots nearby. Check out one of these destinations within two hours of our area.

    Lake Anna

Lake Anna stretches across three counties — Spotsylvania, Orange and Louisa — and is one of the largest freshwater inland lakes in Virginia. It boasts a full range of water activities including swimming, sailing, boating, personal watercraft, wake sports, kayaking and paddleboarding. And if these options aren’t enough to help you cool off and enjoy the water, check out the lake’s sponsored event calendar for more excitement. The lake offers cabins within the state park and plenty of lake homes of all sizes for rent, if you’re heading down for more than just the day. It’s a beautiful, peaceful choice for a day trip or a summer vacation.

    Colonial Beach

Colonial Beach is your quaint spot to cool off on the Potomac. With its waterfront boardwalk, outdoor dining and specialty shopping, it’s a wonderful place to go for a swim and spend an entire day (or more!). This fun golf-cart town and its half-mile boardwalk offer visitors relaxing sunning and swimming, as well as eclectic experiences and river-front sights and sounds. The marina allows you to arrive by land or sea and enjoy water recreational activities, too. Colonial Beach is a quick trip from PWC and definitely worth the drive!

    Cunningham Falls State Park

Instead of heading south, how about heading north into Maryland? Cunningham Falls State Park is located near Thurmont, Maryland and features a beautiful 78-foot cascading waterfall, a 44-acre lake, campsites, playgrounds, picnic areas and hiking trails. Cunningham Falls is the largest cascading waterfall in the state and is a gorgeous sight to see! After your hike, take a swim in the lake where lifeguards are on duty between Memorial Day and Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. You can also enjoy hiking and camping near the water in this beautiful park.

Stay cool this summer and explore all that our extended area has to offer. And if you’re looking to buy or sell a home in PWC, give us a call! We’ll help you every step of the way.
