Whether you’re looking for family fun, date night or an educational adventure, you can find it here locally. February and March have plenty of events to keep you busy during the final weeks of winter. Here is just a small selection.
February 2016 Events
Bristow Farmers Market – Smart Markets in Northern Virginia runs several farmers markets, providing guaranteed producer-only markets for shoppers looking to buy fresh and local. You can enjoy the market all year round on Sundays at Piney Branch Elementary School in Bristow. Winter hours are 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. If you are looking for locally grown/raised fruits, vegetables, meats and poultry, as well as locally made breads, cheeses, salsa and sausage, this is the place for you.
Beer Dinner – BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse in Gainesville is hosting a 4-Course Beer Dinner featuring beers from Lagunitas Brewing on Monday, March 7th at 7 p.m. The brewhouse is located at Virginia Gateway.
Gainesville Ballet presents “Carmen” – On Saturday, February 20 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, the award-winning dance company will be performing this production of “Carmen,” based on the famous opera by Bizet, featuring one excerpt with live singing by soprano Elysabeth Muscat.
Frank Ferrante: An Evening with Groucho – February 27 at 8 p.m., visit the Hylton Performing Arts Center and enjoy the next best thing to an actual performance by Groucho Marx himself – the comedy stylings of Frank Ferrante. Ferrante has spent his career interpreting the comic genius of Marx. Variety Magazine proclaims, “Ferrante’s Groucho is a tour de force.”
Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy: The Musical – Visit the Hylton Performing Arts Center on February 28 at 2 or 4 p.m. for a musical experience for the whole family. This musical is based on a New York Times bestselling children’s series and is sure to delight children and parents alike.
“What the Civil War Soldier Carried” Selections from the Collection of Dr. Charles Poland – This new exhibit runs until February 28. Once part of a mobile museum for children, Dr. Charles Poland’s extensive collection of Civil War artifacts is now at home in The Manassas Museum.
Revolution Barrel Release Party – Join the folks at Heritage Brewing Company on Center Pointe Lane in Manassas February 20th from noon to 10 p.m. for the release of their Revolution Amber Ale, aged for 14 months in Catoctin Creek Distilling Company Rye Whiskey barrels.
