Looking for something fun, family-friendly and free to do on Saturday, May 2, 2015? Come check out Arts Alive! 2015, at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. This event will run from 12 to 4 p.m. that day. This annual event showcases a sampling of all the arts, from visual to music to dance. There will be 32 indoor and outdoor performances on the four stages of the Hylton Center and the Showmobile outside the center. There are plenty of hands-on arts-related activities for the whole family. You can snack from the food vendors while you shop for some amazing artwork, crafts and other goodies from local artists, writers and crafters. You can’t beat the price for the event and parking: a whopping $0!

In addition to all this wonderful music, there will be a wide variety of dance performances, from ballet to belly dancing. If you enjoy the dramatic arts, there will be plenty of plays and comedic performances. Come spark your own creativity by participating in the hands-on activities. There are arts, crafts and workshops for adults and children alike. For all you bookworms, local authors will be reading from and selling their work.

If you’re more into visual arts, quilters’, painters’ and photographers’ work will be displayed throughout the venue. Visitors can peruse jewelry, pottery, refurbished furniture and much more. Costumed characters will roam the premises, helping to ensure each area of the arts is well represented.

Enjoying this event will not only enrich your family’s understanding and enjoyment of the arts, it will help you learn about and support local artists and artisans. The goal of this event is to bring arts to the local community. If you have children, this is a great way to introduce them to all the arts have to offer so they can learn what they love and pursue a lifelong love of the arts.
